Cleveland County's rich history was based on the cotton and textile industries; now the economic base is highly varied to include agricultural, industry, manufacturing and art. Cleveland County has a strong base in the arts that goes back three generations with many private and public galleries and studios. Cleveland County is very proud of its designation of a National Preserve American Community; an honor bestowed upon the county by the United State White House.
