Denver, North Carolina

Denver North Carolina real estate is seeing new homes and businesses springing up.  Nestled along the west shores of Lake Norman, homes in Denver NC are minutes from Charlotte real estate, the largest city in North Carolina. Residents enjoy the lake recreation, affordable real estate, and a small-town atmosphere in Denver.

As rapid development of Charlotte NC real estate spreads, beautiful Lake Norman attracts thousands of residents from Charlotte NC homes as well as tourists.  Charlotte, a large metropolitan city, offers entertainment, professional sports venues, theaters, cultural centers, and numerous corporate headquarters.

Interstate 77 on the east side of Lake Norman has prompted rapid development.  Estate homes overlook the waters where little cottages once reigned.  The western side of Lake Norman is different.  For example, Denver is a quiet town that stretches north and south along Highway 16.  Its location between Charlotte and Hickory makes it a fine place for travelers to stop for lunch or a little bit of shopping.  With the widening of Route 16, the cozy, laid-back town itself is expecting a flurry of growth.

In 1962, Lake Norman, a large man-made lake with 512 miles of shoreline, took shape after the construction of Cowans Ford Dam across the Catawba River.  The lake is a popular haven for recreation.  Thousands of visitors join residents each year for fishing, boating, water skiing, sailing, swimming, picnicking, and more activities.

Additionally, the community sponsors an array of cultural activities, sports programs, volunteer organizations, and numerous ways to be involved in community life.  The Lincoln County Schools serve families who currently live in the area.

Undoubtedly, the mild climate and rich habitat continues to make this area a wonderful place to live and play.  The average temperature is slightly less than 60 degrees.  Rainfall is 43 inches and snow falls less than 8 inches a year.  The autumn season, with colorful forests decorating the rolling foothills, announces the short winter season.  Summers are hot and adventurous.

Formerly named Dry Pond, the community changed the name for a more cosmopolitan-sounding option when it tried to win over a railroad route through town.  The railroad passed it by, nonetheless, and the tiny lakeside hamlet never took off.  Prior to the Revolutionary War, the Catawba Indians lived on the eastern shores of the river.  The Cherokee camped in the western reaches.  Adam Sherrill migrated here from Pennsylvania with his eight sons in the mid-1700s followed by John Beatty.  Both families settled on the west side near shoals in the river that enabled them to cross.  Those shoals still bear these family names.
