Lincolnton North Carolina

Downtown Lincolnton NC
Lincolnton, the county seat of Lincoln County, is the Best Kept Secret for real estate around Charlotte North CarolinaLincolnton NC real estate is near Lake Norman, Gastonia, Hickory.  Residents of homes in Lincolnton enjoy the welcoming atmosphere, classic downtown, recreation, and close proximity to metropolitan Charlotte real estate.

A variety of Lincolnton NC homes, including those in historic districts and in new-home developments such as Goodson's Place, are nestled into the lush, well-maintained landscapes of quiet neighborhoods.  Buyers also select from Lincolnton homes for sale along the lake and golf course real estate in the Westport neighborhood or in Verdict Ridge Golf and Country Club.  In the rolling hills just a step away from the charming town, buyers can find country estates and homes with larger land lots in Timberline Estates - all within a hop, skip, and a jump from big-city commercial real estate in Charlotte.

With a population of 10,000, the historic community has grown leaps and bounds.  Main Street, the center of community life, leads to the downtown courthouse, town square, restaurants, and shops.  Growth has not diminished the down-home feel, camaraderie, and feeling of spaciousness.

A brisk walk from Pine Street to Motz Avenue along the Marcia Cloninger rail trail is a fun way to get the heart beating and greet others along the way.  Scenic beauty extends to the low-lying South Mountains and to Lake Norman with its 512 mile shoreline, a boaters delight and hikers paradise.

The town is the second oldest town west of the Catawba River, having incorporated in 1785.  Beginning as a farming town, Lincolnton joined the booming manufacturing industries of the region and became a factory mill town.  The profusion of historical locations such as Revolutionary War sites left behind from previous eras is at the center of a popular cultural richness today.

The town encompasses both the South Aspen Street and the West Main Street national register historic districts.  South Aspen includes over 70 historic resources from the mid 19th century to the mid 20th century.  West Main includes the largest surviving collection of buildings erected before the Civil War when the county seat experienced its greatest times of prosperity and influence.

A diverse menu of cultural activities, historical celebrations, competitions, and literary, musical, artistic and theatrical performances are available in town mostly through the efforts of the Lincoln Cultural Center.  It is home to six distinct organizations: The Lincoln Chapter of the North Carolina Symphony, The Lincoln Arts Council, The Lincoln County Museum and Historical Association, The Lincoln Theatre Guild, The Lincoln Community Concert Association, and The Lincoln Choral Guild.  Community events include the foot-stomping Alive After Five concert series in the summer, the Christmas Parade, and the annual Apple Festival in the autumn.

All rolled into a scroll, the secret of the quality of life in this small town is being rediscovered as the metro area keeps expanding. It is one of the best places to live.
